About me
I’m Izzat Afifi.

I’m a frontend engineer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Before building software, I spent around five years working on physical infrastructure. The setting has changed, but I still enjoy the same thing: solving practical problems with people and seeing a project through.
Before software
I studied Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Australia. My early career took me into extra-low-voltage systems: CCTV, speakers, fibre optics, and card access installations.
As a project engineer, I managed more than 100 workers and worked daily with contractors and other stakeholders. One of the projects I helped deliver was TRX Mall in Kuala Lumpur. It taught me to coordinate different disciplines, work through constraints, and take responsibility for delivery.

Making the change
In early 2023, I began moving into web development. I spent roughly six months learning through online courses, videos, a short bootcamp, and an internship. During that career break, I also managed an ice cream shop.
I joined Xsolla in January 2024. Since then, my work has grown from frontend product development into shared SDK architecture, cross-platform design systems, and developer tooling, alongside interim team leadership and mentoring.
How I work
My engineering background shapes how I approach software: understand the problem, make responsibilities clear, and keep people aligned as the work changes. I enjoy building foundations other teams can use and sharing what I learn, including mentoring five graduates through Xsolla School.
What’s next
I’m currently learning Japanese and would love to experience life in Japan, with the possibility of working and growing my engineering career there.
I’m interested in engineering opportunities in Japan and internationally, where I can contribute to shared platforms, thoughtful product development, and teams that learn together. Outside my day-to-day work, I build independent products to explore ideas from the first sketch through to release.
